Cows at the Cow Farm--Summer 2010

At the cow farm they have thousands of cows. We rode a bus to see where they live. They have pens for some of the baby's and then we saw where they milk them at. The can be milked in 8 minutes. It was neat. They ride a circle around and know when to get off when they are finished.

They also have a birthing barn. One cow was having problems and they had to come help get the calf out. It was gross. They hooked straps onto the calf to pull it out. I thought they were going to next bring in a tractor to help pull. I've seen cars get pulled from the mud easier. But the baby came out and was doing fine.

They said the mommy and baby are only together for 30 minutes before the calf is removed and the mom sent back to the barn. They mommy never sees the calf again after that unless they meet at a meat counter some day.

I know bad joke.
